The friendliness of the owners was beyond anything I could imagine. When you arrive, they give you a welcome drink and explain the hotel and island to you. The breakfast was the best I've had in Greece. Many homemade cakes and breads--so much variety! They will also help you in renting a car, giving you directions. This was possibly my best experience on the islands. If you are thinking of staying here, don't think---just go! The hotel is also really quiet as it is 10 mn from the main town.
The hotel is on a small hill 5-10 minutes walk to the main town. I prefer this because 1) it is always more quiet to be away from the main town 2) I need the exercise after everything i ate for breakfast! Some people who do not like to walk, may not like this. Other than that, there is nothing that I didn't like about this hotel. I would stay again for sure.
We do not usually write reviews...but had to for Hotel Grotta. We stayed recently and were simply overwhelmed by the friendliness, kindness, and generosity of the hosts - and the beautiful location. From the incredible breakfast spread (with homemade quiche, fruit pies and other delicacies) to the hotel's own wine (served on arrival - perfect!), to the outstanding surroundings (the hotel sits right on a cliff over it's own virtually private crystal clear swimming cove) this was the spot to stay on Naxos. If not on the Greek Islands. Myself and husband are in love with the hotel, as is our Mother who was travelling with us all the way from New Zealand. We will be back. Thank you again to our hosts - Daughter for her excellent welcome and farewell @reception, Papa for his wine and farewell transport, and Mama for her delicious food!
We have all thought hard and found... Nothing to complain about here. If you are looking for a homely but modern and stylish hotel (without a pretentious feel), overlooking the port of a beautiful Greek Island (with an ancient temple ruin - the Temple of Apollo - thrown in) then this is the place you should stay. If you can find a room available! Hotel Grotta is rightly popular.
Such an amazing homey place, where breakfast is served every day to very high standards. The service is exceptional with really really friendly people. The views were beautiful from the hotel, and we liked that you are just a little bit out of town. It is a little walk, but it's only about 5 minutes or so.
The beds pushed together to make a double bed was the only thing and that was a small thing.
The management of Grotta is absolutely remarkable. We arrived exceedingly late from our ferry, and they were waiting in horrible weather conditions to pick us up and deliver us safely to their wonderful hotel. When we departed, we left Prada sunglasses in their car. Grotta was happy to ship them back to us in the us, and refused to charge us for the shipping, or any inconvenience. These are just wonderful people, and if that matters to your planning, this is one of the finest hotels in the world. That famous "Greek hospitality" truly makes its home at Grotta, and when we return to Greece we will make Grotta our home, as well. We will stay longer next time (and try to secure a larger room if it is available).
The staff were so welcoming and polite. We found the home made quiches and special treats at breakfast really good. Home from home . Thank you Janine Magner
Very friendly atmosphere, walking distance (~10' from the centre of the city). Very clean. Would recommend it to anyone.
The staff were incredibly friendly and absolutely went overboard to help with directions and local information.Handy little bay to swim in as well.
A little further away and no outdoor pool.
Friendly host, nice and convenient location, great breakfast. Relaxing environment.
There was a pickup service from the port available (great) but we weren't made aware of it (unfortunate). We weren't the only ones unaware of this.
Hotel Grotta is a gem! When you are traveling abroad, foremost on your mind is making the most of the money you are spending--it may be a while before you are back again!--so you want to see the best sites, experience the best beach, eat at the best restaurant. But how to know from just guidebooks and websites?? The folks at Hotel Grotta understand this, and they know their island inside and out. They tell you how to get the most from your stay on their island. They are a family (even their darling hostess, who I don't think is a blood relation, but who is as warm and helpful as anyone can be), and they welcome you as if to their home (without being overbearing or pushy). The rooms are immaculate, and comfortable, the water pressure is wonderful. The location is fantastic--you are just blocks from the main promenade, and just steps from all the charm of old Naxos town, which is fantastic to explore at night! We love Hotel Grotta!
The mattresses and pillows are hard.
The best hotel in Naxos! We missed our first staying in this hotel due to the 24 hour strike and could not get to Naxos. I was so impressed that the hotel insisted that we would not be charged for that night! The hotel is run by a wonderful family who were so friendly and helpful! The free breakfast provided was an incredible array of home cooked typical items that we went crazy over! The view from our room at sunset was unmatched and our favorite in all the 10 days we spent in the Greek isles! The hotel was a short walk from town and really it was in a perfect location.
Having stayed in many hotels, Grotta offered an uniquely wonderful experience. Exceptional staff, great breakfasts and a relaxed almost homely atmosphere. The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at ease.
The staff are extremely welcoming, friendly and accomodating. They put in a huge effort to make sure our every need was catered for and we were always well taken care of. They also do an excellent job of providing information about Naxos.
The staff is amazing. They go above and beyond to provide exemplary service - from welcome olives and drinks to free transportation from the port when we arrived, and to the airport when we left!! The breakfast that is including in the room is also splendid. Everything is homemade and delicious.
The rooms are not soundproof. That said, I am a light sleeper and I slept wonderfully while there!
Hotel Grotta was excellent from the moment they picked us up at the port and provided free introductory wine and olives to the moment when one of the owners gave us a lift back to the port. The hotel is extremely well run and the staff were amazing. Not only were they friendly but they would also go out of their way to help you. For the relatively cheap price this has to be the best value for money hotel either I or my partner has stayed in.
